I did not loose my eyelashes when I had chemo but I do have some advise. I am an optician and I work for an eye doctor. Our eye lashes help protect our eyes from dust, excessive air and foreign bodies. They also help keep the moisture on the surface of the eye. When we loose our lashes the seal on our closed eye is not as strong , and our eyes dry out. If dust or a lot more air is getting in, our eyes tear more to protect them from the elements. Also when our eyes are dry we produce excess tears to try to protect the cornea from the dryness. Sometimes different drugs including chemo can make our eyes dry. There are three parts to our tears, the water, the oil, and the salt . The oily part keeps our tears from evaporation and gives them high quality lubrication , the aqueous part keeps the flow going and distributes the salty part that helps with the ph balance. Any number of medications can upset this delicate balance. Seems odd that we would have excess tears with a dry eye but it's just our body trying to compensate . Try using some over the counter artificial tears with no preservatives and check with your doctor. Good luck I hope they grow back fast ......

YAY!! I too finished chemo on the 8th! I didn't lose my lashes but my eyes and my nose ran the entire time and still is. I'm pretty sure the waitress at the restaurant yesterday thought I was crying. I do real estate closings and I can't tell you how many times I was in a closing with a client and thought my "snot" was going to drip down right in the closing documents. Embarrassing! I've been told to take Benadryl but it makes me tired so wouldn't be good for work days. Please let me know if you notice yours subsiding.

I lost my eye lashes on the bottom lids only just after my 6th and final chemo. My eye brows thinned out then too. I had drippy wet eyes all the way through for about four or five days of each cycle. The dripping usually started about 10 days in and would make my eye corners chapped. I found a really good lip balm dabbed on the corners helped with that. My oncologist said to try allergy eye drops, but it didn't help me. I had a watery drippy nose too and took a chlor tab allergy tab for that. They were thinking of having my eye doctor look at me to see if I needed stents in my tear ducts. I didn't do it though and just toughed it out. I don't think I could have taken any other treatments for anything! My last chemo was on 10/4 and I just noticed some new lashes coming in this morning.

That's a great explanation Colleen! I lost my lashes (and brows and hair) five years ago when I had chemo and they did not grow back. I have a terrible problem with dry eyes but will definitely try artificial tears!

Yes! My eyes were irritated a lot during chemo. I didn't lose all of my lashes but enough to make a difference. My oncologist suggested that the chemo also dries out the eyes, so the artificial tears will help on both accounts!

I finished chemo on 10/26/12. Since then, my lashes & brows have thinned out, but not gone completely. My eyes water constantly, my nose runs, and I also have twitches in my cheeks. Side effects that will go away I hope. :)

I had my last chemo 10/16/12. My hair started to grow back the beginning of December. My eyelashes promptly fell out when my hair in my head started to grow back. Now I am anxiously waiting for my lashes to return. They do serve a purpose! My eyes water a lot too.
